Jenn Taylor was my guest on episode 30 of The Modern Mom Society podcast, where she and I discussed life with 18 kids and her tips for moms who are struggling with the day to day. In her bio, she had mentioned that she practiced minimalism, and I was bummed that we didn’t get a chance to cover it in the podcast interview… so the conversation continued after we closed out the podcast episode and I wanted to share it with my listeners because it was so inspiring and helpful! Here’s what we discussed:
- How minimalism was the single biggest thing that made life easier being such a big family
- Figuring out what she really truly needed in her home
- The process she went through to get rid of clothes and toys
- Managing the influx of stuff and how you really don’t need the Costco pack of everything
- Her step wise process for paring down the stuff and the 90/10 rule
- The importance of setting boundaries around how much you own
- Getting the family on board with the new program of less stuff
Carrie’s favorite quotes from the interview:
“Once you start minimizing, you realize the emotion behind it.”
“When people post pictures of their vacation, of a panoramic view of Yosemite. What do you see? Wide open space. And the peace and serenity if feel in just looking at someone else’s picture when you’re not even there. But yet, we walk into our houses and it’s the most cluttered stressful environment that we have.”
There is a little bit of explicit language in here, so be mindful of that if you listen with your littles around. 🙂
